Enterprise Data Center (EDC) is a global organization responsible for managing the Firm’s enterprise data center portfolio. EDC Asia Project team collaborates with Technology project teams, Corporate Services, and Data Center service providers to deliver new data center buildouts, enhancements, and changes. This process involves gathering initial requirements, designing solutions, monitoring construction, and ensuring technology equipment is properly installed and managed throughout its lifecycle.

We are seeking a proactive bilingual Data Center Project Manager with strong whitespace, MEP, and project management skills to lead the Morgan Stanley Data Centres projects in Japan. The Project Manager reports to the VP of EDC Asia Project team, and will be responsible for coordination with internal Morgan Stanley teams, Data Center service providers, and external vendors.

The Project Manager will oversee all stages of data center whitespace activities, work closely with MEP consultants and service providers on design, recommendations, testing, commissioning, handover, and project closeout. This will involve internal coordination between Network, Enterprise Computing, and IT teams for build-outs, as well as managing white-space activities such as equipment rack/stack, network patching, equipment delivery and deployment, and providing logistical support for all data center-related tasks. Managing project budgets and timelines is also a key responsibility.

Job Description

Responsible for coordination with internal teams, external contractors, and Data Center service providers

– Design, Analysis and Requirement Gathering

o Work with internal Sourcing, Legal and Finance teams to manage RFP process for securing new service, negotiating lease terms, and providing support for contract discussions

o Work with Data Center service providers to understand whitespace constraints (power / coolings) and come up with the white space layouts

o Prepare equipment installation, delivery, restack plans with internal technology teams and external DC vendor

o Gather hardware BOM (model, delivery dates, etc.) from different technology teams

o Calculate/design the required rack count, power consumption, cooling, network panels, cables, etc, and work with other Data Center teams on design and construction

– Implementation and Deployment

o Local travel will be required to monitor Data Center service providers’ construction progress: Work with service providers engineers to provide progress feedback, defect lists and follow-up accordingly. Vendor management is a requirement

o Centralize all technology teams equipment installation and restack requests, and raise Change Management request. When required, assist in physical racking and stacking of technology equipment (e.g. power and network cable connections, iLO configuration)

o Work closely with different third party vendors for equipment delivery

o Coordinate and escort Telco carrier vendors for circuit installations, and witness testing

o Coordinate and supervise patching of network cables, and witness testing

o Centralize and raise all equipment decommission and disposals requests. Follow appropriate guideline carefully, and work with disposal teams/vendors on equipment disposal, disk degaussing/shredding and document detailed records

o On-site presence is required. Potential out of area travel may be required.

– Project Management and Documentation

o Responsible for developing high level and low level project plans and budgets

o Provide regular reporting on project status and meeting minutes

o Update equipment inventory management system and rack elevations.

o Collect all data necessary for management/operation report, including capacity management, budget forecasts, project spends, vendor coordination, and patching

o Responsible for maintaining the project SharePoint site for the project documentation and information – modifying the design and function of the site as required.

Education and Certifications

– Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience

Skills

· Language: Bi-lingual and be able to read/write/speak in English and Japanese

· Experience/Knowledge:

o Min 5-7 years working experience in Data Center industry’s mission critical system

o Project Management certification is a plus, such as PMP

o Good understanding of data center infrastructure and its resiliency design (UPS, Generator, CRAC, cabling, containment routes, etc). CDCP is a plus

o Good understanding of technology hardware installation procedure

o Network cable patchings and testing technique

o Solid experience with Excel, Powerpoint, Microsoft Project

• Experience in buildouts, testing and commissioning, handover, close out on Data Center projects

• Basic knowledge of International as well as local building regulations including Life Safety

• Able to work proactively with good communication, analytical, problem solving, and negotiation skills, in order to work with different teams across different countries

• Ability to communicate in a clear and understandable manner

• Ability to organize and plan multiple projects with different end-users simultaneously

• Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment and under pressure
